Sky’s UHD TV Service‚Ķ‚Ķ.coming soon?
All present and future owners of Ultra High Definition UHD 4K TVs will be pleased to know that a major player like Sky has plans to offer UHD TV services in the near(ish) future, but there hasn’t been a great deal of information coming from them about what’s in the offing.
Only Sky themselves are going to know exactly when their UHD TV services will be launching and what form they will take, but at Simply Electricals, we know a thing or two about UHD technology and have one or two thoughts about how it’s going to work.
The box itself
In order to process the UHD signal, the future UHD Sky box will have to have a lot more under the hood than its predecessor. It could possibly look very much like the current Sky HD TV box that exists in many of our homes and will probably retail at around the £249.99 mark, depending on the subscription services signed up for.
The feeling also, is that it will incorporate optical and coaxial ports, 2 USB ports, HDMI input and an ethernet port. Standard fare for this type of device in 2015, but the minimum for this level programming.
The technical bit now. The UHD transmissions will more than likely in a 3840 x 2160 aspect at around 60 frames per second. It will also hopefully include Dolby Atmos, which produces sound that literally fills the room to make you feel part of the action.
Which TVs will get the best out of it?
At our Bolton and Rawtenstall stores, we have a huge range of HD & UHD TVs in stock, but we’ve narrowed down the makes and models that should benefit most from the new transmissions. They include the Samsung JS9500 & JS9000 curved screen UHD models and the Sony X9005C and X9305C range of TVs.
Add a soundbar audio enhancement to any of these models and you will most likely be blown away by the results achieved. Theoretical at present admittedly, but all the signs point to an amazing service.
How long do we have to wait?
There are no hard and fast dates set at the moment, but our guess is Spring 2016 to make the most of the increased demand just before Euro 2016 and the Olympics next summer.
