When it comes to choosing a coffee machine, you may be stuck between brands.
DeLonghi and Breville are two of the most popular brands when it comes to coffee machines, which is why we’ve made this handy guide to help you choose the right brand and machine for your kitchen.
About DeLonghi coffee machines
DeLonghi coffee machines are made with the user’s experience at the forefront, enabling coffee lovers to enjoy coffee shop standard drinks in the comfort of their own home.
Their machines are elegantly designed, and many of them are compact, making them an ideal addition to your kitchen no matter what size it is.
About Breville coffee machines
Breville is well known for its quality kitchen appliances, and their coffee machines are no exception. No matter if you’ve only just started drinking coffee, or you’ve been a coffee lover for years, a Breville coffee machine is a kitchen essential.
Their innovative and stylish designs not only provide great tasting coffee, but they look great too.
What is the difference between DeLonghi and Breville?
Whilst there isn’t too much of a difference in terms of where each brand is manufactured, both brands use their own types of technology.
Although both DeLonghi and Breville both have machines in partnership with Nespresso, they each use their own style of brewing coffee which is why the coffee pods can’t be used interchangeably.
Where are DeLonghi coffee machines manufactured?
Since DeLonghi’s acquisition of Kenwood in 2001, they have been using Kenwood’s Chinese factory for production and manufacturing, while design and engineering elements largely remain in Italy.
Where are Breville coffee machines manufactured?
Breville machines are designed and engineered in Australia, but are manufactured in China, with some models being created in countries such as Austria and the US.
Types of coffee machines
Both DeLonghi and Breville make a range of popular coffee machines, including:
DeLonghi bean to cup coffee machines
The De’Longhi Magnifica S, Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee Machine is a popular choice amongst bean to cup machine lovers. This machine features simple touch operation, allowing you to get great tasting coffee at the touch of a button.
It also features an integrated silent grinder which has 13 settings and can be used with either coffee grounds or beans.
DeLonghi manual espresso machines
Manual espresso machines can be quite hard to master, but the De’Longhi Dedica Style EC685M is a popular choice amongst those who are new to using an espresso machine.
The steam wand is ideal for making quality milk textures, which is perfect if you’re looking for the coffee shop experience at home.
DeLonghi filter coffee machines
One of the most affordable products in DeLonghi’s coffee machine range is the DeLonghi Active Line Drip Filter Coffee Machine. This filter coffee machine is a basic, no-nonsense appliance that can make up to 5 cups of coffee at one time.
Breville espresso machines
Breville’s VCF126 Barista Max Espresso Machine is on the pricier side compared to DeLonghi’s espresso machine, but it does come with a whole host of different features.
This espresso machine features an integrated bean hopper, intelligent shot control and a full sized one touch steam wand that produces dry steam.
Breville filter coffee machine
Breville Flow Filter Coffee Machine is one of the simplest machines to use, thanks to the easy functions and fuss-free operation.
This 12 cup coffee machine uses ground coffee with paper filters, and features an auto-pause function allowing you to stop/start the coffee cycle as you wish.
12 Cup Capacity Glass Coffee Jug | Auto Pause and Keep Warm Functions
Breville pod coffee machine
The Nespresso Vertuo Next Deluxe Coffee and Espresso Machine by Breville uses Nespresso’s great tasting coffee pods alongside Breville’s quality design.
This pod coffee machine is made from 54% recycled materials and features energy savings functions.
Top features of DeLonghi coffee machines
With DeLonghi’s easy to use, automated machines, you can enjoy great tasting coffee in the comfort of your own home with a simple push of a button.
Depending on which machine you choose, DeLonghi has a Coffee Link app which automatically connects to compatible machines. It features handy tips and suggestions, helping to keep your machine working at its highest performance and allowing you to try new flavours and recipes.
Top features of Breville coffee machines
Breville is known for producing high quality, durable coffee machines that can withstand the test of time.
Their coffee machines are convenient for every kind of kitchen, thanks to the space saving design. A lot of their machines also feature stainless steel elements, making them incredibly easy to clean, which is great for those who use their machine regularly.
Their espresso machines also feature PID technology resulting in consistent optimal brewing temperatures every time.
DeLonghi vs Breville coffee grinders
The two machines which grind coffee beans are the Breville VCF126 Barista Max Espresso Machine and De’Longhi Specialista Prestigio Barista Pump Espresso Machine.
Both machines feature an integrated bean hopper; however, the Breville seems to take the edge with overall 30 different grind settings, whereas the DeLonghi only has 6. However, DeLonghi does use patented sensor grinding technology for optimal dosage each time.
However, some reviews note that the Breville grinder doesn’t appear to be as stable as the DeLonghi machines, as it is made from a cheaper feeling plastic.
If you are considering purchasing the Breville Barista Max, be aware that the hopper may not be as airtight as the DeLonghi and you may have to only fill it as and when you need the beans to be ground.
Which is best: DeLonghi or Breville?
There are a few differences between DeLonghi and Breville which you should be aware of before you commit to choosing which brand to go for.
